Plastic Surgery PhotoAlthough the primary goal of cancer treatment is to cure cancer, such treatment can sometimes lead to a loss of function or a deformity. For most cancer patients, survival with a poor quality of life is not acceptable. The Plastic Surgery Center at M. D. Anderson specializes in reconstructive surgery to correct deformities and to restore normal function after cancer-related treatments.

Since 1988, we have worked to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients with a multidisciplinary approach that has made M. D. Anderson famous. Our clinical faculty is expert in state-of-the-art microvascular surgical techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes. In most cases, reconstruction is performed immediately after the tumor has been removed.

The Department of Plastic Surgery provides comprehensive consultation, and follows patients with digital imaging and a computerized database.

Our services include:

  • Pre-surgery consultation and evaluation
  • General plastic surgery reconstruction
  • Reconstructive surgery of defects in the head, neck, breast, torso and extremities
  • Complex microsurgery reconstruction
  • Reconstruction for melanoma and skin cancer patients
