Ronald DePinho, M.D.
President - Executive Committee
DePinho, internationally recognized for basic and translational research in cancer, aging and age-associated degenerative disorders, became MD Anderson’s fourth full-time president on Sept. 1, 2011. In this role, he oversees all areas of MD Anderson. He joined us after 14 years at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he was founding director of the Belfer Institute for Applied Cancer Science. There, he guided major basic-translational research programs focused on brain, colorectal, pancreatic and prostate cancers. His scientific program made fundamental discoveries underlying cancer in the aged and factors governing acquired and inherited degenerative disorders. He established the concept of tumor maintenance, discovered a core pathway of aging and demonstrated that aging is a reversible process. Also, he has constructed and used refined mouse models of cancer to identify many new cancer targets and diagnostics.


Raymond DuBois, M.D., Ph.D.
Provost and Executive Vice President - Executive Committee
DuBois provides executive leadership for the development of research programs and policies and the allocation of institutional resources such as space and funding. He oversees faculty evaluations, promotions and the tenure review process. He is directly responsible for performance evaluations and leadership development of all institutional faculty leaders. Additionally, he is responsible for recruitment of all department chairs and divisions heads, and oversight of all educational programs.
Leon J. Leach Executive Vice President - Executive Committee
Leach provides executive leadership for the institution's financial, business, administrative and infrastructure activities. He's responsible for financial planning and represents the institution as chief business officer to the UT System. Leach oversees business development, facilities management, finance, human resources, information services, marketing, patient financial services, research finance and technology commercialization. He also is chairman of the board of directors of MD Anderson Services Corporation, an MD Anderson subsidiary.
Thomas Burke, M.D.
Executive Vice President and Physician-in-Chief - Executive Committee
Burke provides leadership for Clinical Operations and Programs. He is responsible for oversight and strategic planning for patient care delivery throughout the hospital, clinics and outreach programs. He ensures that all clinical operations are efficient, effective and appropriately support the research-driven, multidisciplinary, patient centered clinical mission of the institution. Burke is a practicing physician in Gynecologic Oncology with a research emphasis in vulvar and endometrial cancers.
Dan Fontaine, J.D.
Senior Vice President for Business Affairs
Fontaine serves a dual role in the Office of Business and Regulatory Affairs. With the chief business officer, he provides executive co-leadership for Business Development, Facilities, Finance, Human Resources, Information Services, Marketing, and Technology Commercialization and subsidiary corporations. Under the president's direction, he operates as the chief regulatory officer and is responsible for providing executive oversight for regulatory functions including legal, governmental compliance, internal audit and risk management. He also serves on MD Anderson International Espana's board of directors.
Stephen Tomasovic, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
Tomasovic provides executive leadership for academic programs, including undergraduate education, graduate research and medical education, post-graduate education, continuing medical education, and the student and faculty appointments, records and policies. He also is responsible for institutional accreditations for undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate education, academic support service departments, and extramural local, national and international affiliations, program agreements, and sister institution relationships.

Gerard J. Colman
Senior Vice President and Chief of Clinical Operations
Colman is responsible for all inpatient and outpatient operations through direct oversight of the clinical administrative directors, division administrators, medical operations and the vice president for Clinical Support Services. He collaborates with division heads and other vice presidents in support of inpatient and outpatient operations, as well as clinical research.

Ernest Hawk, M.D.
Vice President, Cancer Prevention and Population Sciences
Hawk is responsible for advancing the science and application of cancer through multidisciplinary programs in research, clinical service and education, as well as eliminating the unequal burden of cancer in minority and underserved populations. These goals are achieved through the efforts of the Departments of Behavioral Science, Clinical Cancer Prevention, Epidemiology and Health Disparities Research, as well as the Cancer Prevention Center, Behavioral Research and Treatment Center, and Center for Research in Minority Health.
Adrienne Lang
Vice President, Center Programs
Lang serves as chief of staff to MD Anderson's President, managing and analyzing all information provided to him and serving as a liaison and an interface between him and the institution-at-large, its committees, faculty and staff. Lang helps coordinate the President's activities in governmental relations, public affairs and the Board of Visitors. She also organizes and serves on the Management Committee.

Dwain Morris
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Morris provides leadership for the institution's long-term and short-term financial planning, internal and external financial reporting, accounting, treasury and cash management, supply chain services, business case analysis, and the management of assets. He also provides leadership to ensure that MD Anderson meets all financial regulatory requirements of The University of Texas and the State of Texas.

Stephen C. Stuyck
Vice President, Public Affairs
Stuyck provides leadership for a variety of allied programs that advance the communication, community service and patient and public education objectives of MD Anderson. His division includes the Children's Art Project, External Communications, Internal Communications, Creative Communications, Patient Education, Public Education and Volunteer Services. He serves as senior public affairs counselor and advocate for the interests and expectations of the public, patients and others whom we serve.
Shibu Varghese
Vice President, Human Resources
Varghese sets the strategic direction of Human Resources based on the institution's vision. He is responsible for the overall management and direction of human resources programs including Organizational Development, Benefits, Compensation, Recruitment, Employee Development, the Generalist organization, Employee Health and Well-being, WorkLife programs, Employee Programs and the HR Service Center (myHR). He guides the development of short- and long-term strategies to hire, develop and train a highly qualified workforce.
James Abbruzzese, M.D.
Chair, Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology
Abbruzzese leads a team of highly specialized medical oncologists, scientists, physician assistants and research nurses who treat a range of gastrointestinal malignancies. Research scientists in the department are working to find better therapies, as well as more accurate diagnosis and screening procedures to detect GI cancers in their earliest stages. Fellowship and residency programs train future generations of gastrointestinal oncologists.
Sharon Dent, Ph.D.
Chair, Department of Molecular Carcinogenesi

Dent is chair of Carcinogenesis and administrative director of the Science Park, Research Division in Smithville, Texas. The department focuses on identifying and investigating critical cellular and molecular targets involved in the process of carcinogenesis, and using this information in mechanism-driven cancer prevention studies.
John Hazle, Ph.D.
Chair, Department of Imaging Physics
Hazle leads a department that provides medical imaging physics services for all radiological imaging equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer at MD Anderson. The clinical and research faculty conduct research in most aspects of medical imaging. Educating the next generation of health care professionals in the medical imaging sciences also is a major focus of the department.

Marshall Hicks, M.D.
Head, Division of Diagnostic Imaging
Hicks heads a dynamic division that includes four departments: Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Department of Experimental Diagnostic Imaging, Department of Imaging Physics and Department of Nuclear Medicine. In addition to his duties as division head, he also serves as chair ad interim of Diagnostic Radiology. The division provides a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging and therapeutic services in the various imaging modalities. It also offers six specialized fellowship training programs.
