Leon J. Leach

Leon Leach is an executive vice president at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.  His responsibilities include executive leadership for the business, administrative and support departments including: finance, business development, marketing, human resources, facilities management, information services, and technology development and commercialization.  In addition, he also serves as the chairman of the board of directors of M. D. Anderson Services Corporation, an Anderson-controlled entity that facilitates and invests in early-stage start-up companies based on institutionally-invented technologies.

Prior to his arrival at M. D. Anderson in September of 1997, Mr. Leach was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Cornerstone Physicians Corporation in Irvine, California.  Previously, he was Senior Vice President for Operations and Chief Financial Officer with CareAmerica Health Plans Inc., a southern California-based $600 million health maintenance organization.  Prior to joining CareAmerica, Mr. Leach served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Candle SubAcute Services Inc., also in southern California.  Candle was the largest privately held manager of subacute healthcare facilities in California prior to its purchase by Vencor Hospitals, Inc.

Mr. Leach spent twenty-five years in various leadership positions at the Prudential Insurance Company of America, serving as Senior Vice President of the Prudential Health Care Plan (PruCare), and subsequently as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Prudential Real Estate Affiliates.  He was instrumental in the establishment and start-up operations of 18 health maintenance organizations throughout the southeast and eastern United States while with Prudential.

Outside M. D. Anderson, Mr. Leach serves as a board member for the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, the Greater Houston Partnership Economic Development Advisory Committee, and numerous not-for-profit organizations.

Mr. Leach holds a master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, an MBA from Widener University, and a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University.
