Hazard Mitigation Action Plan

The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center prepared a draft Hazard Mitigation Action Plan in March of 2006 in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) guidelines and requirements.  The plan provides a blueprint for future hazard mitigation, defined as, “any sustained actions to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from a range of hazards.”  Public comment is an integral part of the development and approval of the plan, and M. D. Anderson, a public, non-profit institution which is part of the University of Texas, welcomes public input on the final plan prior to formal adoption by the center’s Emergency Management Committee.  The plan has been reviewed by FEMA, and all that is necessary for formal adoption is the final public comment opportunity and official adoption by the Emergency Management Committee.

This Hazard Mitigation Action Plan draft (pdf) is also available for public review by appointment between June 12 and 20, 2008, by contacting Ms. Devina Patel, Program Manager for Environmental Health and Safety, at 713-563-3742. In addition, the public is invited to attend a meeting on June 20, 2008, to present any questions or comments on the draft plan.  This meeting will be held in M. D. Anderson's Cancer Prevention Building, 8th floor Room 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and visitor parking is available at the Mays Clinic parking garage.
