About The Joint Commission
An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to meeting certain performance standards.
Every three years, The Joint Commission surveys The University of Texas M. D. Anderson for one week closely observing a range of quality, safety, patient care and support practices. As a result of the December 2007 survey at M. D. Anderson, The Joint Commission has identified five required areas for process and program improvement and six supplemental areas that call for enhancements. While these are areas that M. D. Anderson has prioritized for immediate improvement, the institution is continually monitoring all safety and quality programs.
M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has been consistently accredited by The Joint Commission since 1951.
Patients and employees who have questions or concerns are encouraged to contact The Joint Commission or call 630-792-5000.
